[ALTBATTERY new]Whoever have solution to Sanyo OEM battery pack that utilize bq80201 as fuel gauge are welcome to discuss in this topic here. People pay few ten thousands to get the secret, it just not worth the price for a small company. This may increase the cost of refilling a battery. As far as I know, this technical is not yet available in Malaysia, but a small amount of China man have the secret, I have see refurbished battery from China have the 'Cycle Used' parameter clear to zero on battery that using bq80201 , this mean they know how to communicate with the chip and rewrite the info inside.
Currently, we have non-perfect solution for some old circuit board with bq80201(manufactured before years 2004), but we having problem with those bq80201 newer than 2004 since Texas Instrument have obviously upgraded the hardware layer base on micro-controller bq8020.
Beside, as we see, more and more new fuel gauge manufactured by Texas Instrument with different version of firmware or hardware exist in the market, mostly use by IBM laptop battery, for example, bq8030. Beside bq20847, bq20857 use in Dell laptop also increase the difficulty to refill those battery. We have yet to discover the method to reuse those circuit board.
Almost all Dell with 1-3-5 LED flashing when pressing test button can be clear, but the problem may remain as the board just don't immediately learn a new capacity after the cells is replaced. This mean we have to cycling current through the circuit board before it can be reused.
Currently, we refill those battery by cycling the circuit board with dummy cells, sometime it take more than 10 hours to cycling the board. This is a waste of time, which also mean a waste of money to us. Looking for instrument or method to make the board restore all necessary parameter to default but with less success.
Other older chips for example bq20XX, PSXXX, M3751X, AS3XX, PIC16C63, all can be done.

Welcome:
Welcome to Alternative Battery Enterprise weblog, Alternative Battery Enterprise is a small business based in Malaysia, that realt/refill/recell or even repair your laptop and notebook battery.
Alternative Battery Enterprise always emphasize on the quality of the refilled battery, you are welcome to search for our services record or user experience on other web space.
Since first operates from year 2006, Alternative Battery Enterprise maintain good customer sales and services record.
Fast turn around time, your battery will be fixed in less than one week time. Usually customers get their batteries back in next day although they are normally told 3 working day to proceed. This could be the most efficient battery refill service that really work you could possibly found in Malaysia.
Battery is backed with 100% money back satisfaction guarantee in the first month of recell. Alternative Battery Enterprise accept any reasonable reject of any refilled battery and refund will be issued immediately in 3 working day after battery is post back to us.
A total of 1 year warranty will be given!
There are 6 months warranty on battery cell, in this period you will still get a refund of 80% if your battery fail beyond repair.
After 6 months, Alternative Battery Enterprise will still fix your battery if it fail within any period of 1 year without any additional charge excluded postage fees.
Even after the warranty period, if you confirm that your battery cell is still in good condition, but battery just no working, it can be repaired at RM30! Which is the best way to ensure you get a working battery that value for your money!
Most customers reported that a refilled battery work 2-3years! Some really poorly designed (too few cell with big load) battery may last merely just 1 year, some may last up to 4 years.

Changing the chip set is not a good idea. The chip have 30+ legs. The rate of success is lo, and it is time consuming.
Somehow, I wonder what is the usage of command 0x71 and 0x72 for Sanyo Gas Gauge?
The datasheet is not available in the TI or other website also....and yes, heard few china men said they can fix it....wow so challenging,i start to like battery repair now.
Not challenging, if you don't have the data-sheet, you will not find out what to do.
Anonymous, please leave you name here, better than leave anonymous as your nick, everyone can be Anonymous, and is that the first Anonymous on 04July same with the third on 14Jan?
Dear Sir,
i'm the anonymous on 14 Jan 2009. you can call me Arthur.i'm just starting to learn how to fix or reset the battery circuit board, a newbie in this line.. i know it is kinda late to join in battery repair, so just put it as one of my hobbies.
i just wondering if we can use ic programmer to call out the data from the old battery pack's 80201 and compare it with another 80201 from new battery pack to find out the address of the "cycle count", "full charge capacity" and so on..?
Arthur,
What 'ic programmer' do you refer to?
bq80201 is a custom controller built to let the third party to program it by them self using high level programming language such as C. It is similar to MAX1782, advanced programmable gas gauge, the manufacturer can program the battery with the function they want. It also come with sample code by default same with bq2084 I think.
As I know so far, only SONY and SANYO use this ic as gas gauge. The are no way to reprogram the chip if we do not know what is the algorithm the manufacturer use to write and rewrite the flash built in. They are many possibility they can do this.
Only if you have access to Sanyo Energy Factory original tool needed to reprogram it, than it can be done. Because we don't know the algorithm. It need some sort of code or password authorization to reprogram it. Now, I also waiting for people to give me some guides.
Hope the manufacturers willing to release some secret as their battery become obsolete, after they not more produce the obsolete battery model. There are many battery in the world need to be repaired please. Reduce/recycle rubbish can save the earth.
I didn't know that bq's eeprom was protected by an password ,but i belive that working in electronics for about 10 yers will be useful in finding a way to hack that damn chip... sorry for that i lost it back there. regards to all.
XTY,
Any sugestion? 10 years is nothing if we never learn something related. In fact, what make it so troublesome is that the EEPROM is built in (FLASH memory), it need some sort of I2C protocal to rewrite it. Which remain unknown for many of us. Will Sanyo publish a whitepaper for that?
Therefore, how to read? He responds to commands such as 0x30, 0x3B, 0x3C, 0x4F, 0x50...

I renewed a bq8030 chip
Beta,
Have you installed new cells as well?
Have you managed to renew FCC?
Is it learning cycle required for bq8030dbt with Sanyo firmware?
Thanks for reply!
